Lectio, Prior Donald Scales, OSB
If you intend to do serious sacred reading, I recommend Michael Casey’s book Sacred Reading: The Ancient Art of Lectio Divina. Reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation flow in that order.
First of all you must find a place that is conducive to reading. It may be a particular room, chair, church, or any other place that provides you with the environment that provides you with relaxation, good lighting, and peace.
It is also very important that you select a time that will be free from interruption and be available on a regular basis. It should become a sacred time for you.
Next choose reading material from the Bible, an ancient Christian author, or from a contemporary writer.
Invoke the Holy Spirit in prayer.
Read. Read a phrase, a sentence, a paragraph or a chapter. It really does not make any difference. When something strikes you, begin your reflection and complete it with prayer.
