Abbey Oblates

Who are the Oblates?   Raven

Oblates are men and women who wish to live according to the spirit of the Rule of St. Benedict.  They are affiliated with a particular Benedictine community and in some way support the work and prayer of the monks and nuns.

The term "Oblates" comes from the Latin meaning "gifts of God". In eariler centuries, parents would present their sons to an abbey for religious training and education and so the boys were called oblates. Eventually the term was used to denote someone who was associated with an abbey but was not a member of the community.

The Oblates of Mary Mother of the Church Abbey meet the first Sunday of each month except for June, July & August. The meetings begin at 3:00 PM and end by 4:00 PM.  Oblates are encouraged to stay for the Holy Hour which follows after the meeting.  For more information about becoming an oblate contact Fr. Theophile Brown, O.S.B. frtheo@mmotcva.org , Director of Oblates.
