"Slow me down, Lord."
The pace of living in today’s world can be exhausting. There is an endless list of concerns…business, family, financial, world…to name just a few. Taking care of today’s problems leaves little time to think about tomorrow, much less eternity. Yet, how many times have you found yourself saying,
"Surely there’s more to life than this!"
"Seek first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."
This exhortation of Jesus is a call to reprioritize. It is also a promise that if we restore God to his rightful place as the Center of our being, He will provide the grace to help us through the rest. So now the question becomes,
"Where do I begin?"
"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest…"
Leave behind the concerns of the world. During your stay at Mary, Mother of the Church Abbey there are no phones, no beepers, no meals to cook or letters to answer.
As you empty your mind of the cares of this world, the rest of St. Matthew’s passage recounting the words of Christ will come alive.
"…Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart…"
At last, there is time. Time to pray, time to think, time to listen. Time to gaze at the wonders of God’s creation and praise the Creator. Time to put things in perspective.
"…And you will find rest for your souls."
(Matt. 11:27-28)
"I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall be on my lips continually."
(Psalm 34:1)
The Benedictine Monks at Mary, Mother of the Church Abbey wish to share their spirit of reverence and humility.
The Perpetual Adoration Chapel provides a quiet place to sit in the presence of Christ.
Three times daily the monks at the Abbey gather as community to pray the Liturgy of the hours and each morning the Conventual Mass is celebrated.
Spiritual direction and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are available to help you gain the most from your individual retreat time.
"How lovely is Thy dwelling place, O Lord."
(Psalm 88)
At the heart of monastic life is the Abbey Church, a unique circular design of colorful stained glass that captures inspirational hues from dawn to dusk.
Also visit the Shroud of Turin Center located at the Abbey and explore the history behind the Shroud.
For a conference, retreat group or personal pilgrimage, you will find Mary, Mother of the Church Abbey a place of peace.
To insure a proper atmosphere for meditation, reflection, prayer or study, we request a moderate, quiet, presence of our guest.
